[ THE CONCEPT ]
An editorial treatment of ‘Accountability for Anticipating Design Outcomes’, an AIGA Design Futures paper by Meredith Davis and Deborah Littlejohn. The content describes that design research should stand up to the same standard as any other part of a business, but instead it is seen as tedious to read content. The brief was to provide a structure people would read to the end.
[ The Design ]
Red, black and white only, so the emphasis comes from typography rather than colour. Pull quotes are set large and break the two-column grid, giving the eye somewhere to land on each spread, and key terms are picked out in red so the argument can be followed at a skim. Full red pages drop in at intervals to break up the density and set a rhythm across the sequence. On the cover the title stacks vertically, which keeps it at full size without running out of room.
